Google Crisis Response Organization Overview
The Google Crisis Response organization’s goal is to help people access trusted information and resources in critical situations. Google uses its strengths in information and technology to build products and advocate for policies that address global challenges.
A key element of this goal is “Google Public Alerts”. “Google Public Alerts” is a project of the Google Crisis Response team, supported by Google.org. Google Public Alerts provide the public with the information it needs to make informed decisions in times of crisis.
“Google Public Alerts” is available in the US and many countries around the world. While Google doesn’t guarantee that you’ll see every alert when using Google services the goal is that “Google Public Alerts” are a useful additional source of information.
Google Public Alerts is Google’s platform for disseminating emergency messages such as evacuation notices for hurricanes, and everyday alerts such as storm warnings. Google attempts to show relevant official weather, public safety, and earthquake alerts around the world when you search on Google Search and Google Maps, and when you activate Google Now on your Android device.
Google and Android users can now directly search alert details on Google Search and Google Maps. For example, when users search for information on active emergencies such as wildfires, tropical storms, floods, and earthquakes, they can find relevant and authoritative content in Google’s SOS Alerts and Public Alerts. These alerts include emergency phone numbers and websites, maps, translations of useful phrases, and donation opportunities.
